How do you shoot videos when you’re uncomfortable in front of the camera?

Cathy Vartuli from http://www.TheIntimacyDojo.com with Reid Mihalko from http://www.ReidAboutSex.com share.

Reid: I’m so scared.

Cathy: We talk a lot about videos when Reid and I do videos and we encourage a lot of people to get out there and make videos. I wanted to just share … well, actually, Reid’s here egging me on … that we all have different ways that we feel comfortable doing videos. Reid actually first got me in front of camera many years ago and kind of fostered that. I’ve found over the years that I’m great when I’m with other people, but when I’m talking about myself for myself and I’m solo … like, he’s watching now because it’s really hard for me to shoot otherwise … all my stuff comes out and I feel really vulnerable and awkward, like, who would want to listen to me?

We’re shooting this so that people realize that you may have different sweet spots and that if you’re feeling all this resistance come up, it doesn’t mean there’s anything wrong. It could just be that you feel shy or awkward, or it’s like, “Who am I to do this for me?” I love shooting things to support other people, to help spread messages for other people and help other people, but it’s really hard for me to shoot something just for me. So, of course, Reid encouraged me to do it right away. Anyway, I hope this helps. Let me know what you think.
