Cathy:  Hi, everyone. This is Cathy Vartuli from http://TheIntimacyDojo.com, and we’re here with Reid Mihalko from http://ReidAboutSex.com.

Reid:  And a sex geek shirt!

Cathy: Well, we did a video on how to find sex geeks, and a bunch of people have asked, “What’s a sex geek?” So if they’re wearing a shirt like this, you’re pretty certain that they’re a sex geek.

Reid:  We are clearly labeled. Very geeky.

Cathy: Could you explain what a sex geek is?

Reid:  I’m embarrassed to say that I do not know the actual definition, which I created, off-hand. You can go to http://UrbanDictionary.com and look up “sex geek” – that’s my definition.

It’s also on my website. Basically, what a sex geek is, is anybody who takes pride and has excitement about having really great communications skills, black-belt-level relationship know-how, and some sexual self-confidence, and sharing those skill sets with other people, no matter what those people’s self-expression of life is.

So however “sex geek” flows through you… You know, you’re a sex geek if you get excited about this information. You want to share it with other people.

Cathy: So you might study tantra and be a total sex geek.

Reid:  You could be a sex geek in tantra. You could also study tantra and not be a sex geek. You could just be somebody who’s like, “Tantra helps me get into my body, and I love breathing, and I love being closer and more intimate toward my partner,” and maybe you’re not a sex geek.

There’s no judgment. It’s not like, “Something is broken; you’re not a sex geek.” Sex geeks come in many different sizes and colors and all different kinds of areas of study: tantra, polyamory, monogamy. You could be completely “by the book, in the box, love… be married and conservative and having sex once a week” and you could still be a sex geek because it’s about your health and about communication.

Cathy: Understanding more than what you figured out in fifth grade when you were talking behind the bleachers with your best friend.

Reid:  Exactly. Improving your life and hopefully the lives of others by taking sex from a negative place to a place where we don’t have to be ashamed about it. And willing to show up and do the work, and realizing why that work is important. And those people – I mean, we’re human beings too. I still get cranky. I still get snarky with my partner, and we’ll get into a fight and then I’ll be a sonofabitch, and not want to admit I was sorry.

Cathy: (laughing)

Reid: You know? It’s not like sex geeks are the answer to your relationship woes, but people who think this kind of information is important, who get excited about it. I think exploring your life, your sexuality, your relationship styles, and surrounding yourself with people who are sex-geeky might make for a better life.

Cathy: It’s definitely very entertaining.

Reid:  Yes. Unless you think I’m a complete jackass, in which case maybe sex geeks are just annoying.

Cathy: If you like to identify sex geeks, you can look for the t-shirt.

Reid: They’re on my website.

Cathy: It’s a great way to identify other people and let them know that you’re a sex geek too.

Reid: It’s fun. So I hope this was helpful. E-mail Cathy. Let her know at http://TheIntimacyDojo.com how and what you feel about being a sex geek. What kind of sex geek are you.

Cathy: Yeah.
